Touchdown!

On July 21st we officially touched down in Alaska, made possible by train from Fraser CA to Skagway AK.

The significance of this is that we had now touched down in each of the 50 US states. Quite an achievement if you ask me. Although we are camping in Whitehorse (our camp is not the one pictured above!), we were bussed to Carcross (shortened name for what used to be known as Caribou Crossing) and then to Fraser to board the train. The train was an outstanding activity for our group — the mountain views were amazing as we had a crystal clear day.

I can’t recommend Whitehorse enough. It’s such a cute, quaint town with good people and good food. We enjoyed the McBride Museum and were even able to blow glass at Lumen Studios. We highly recommend taking advantage of that opportunity as well. There were delightful artisans walking us through the steps and we had a joyous time there.

Before Whitehorse we camped at Watson Lake where our Airstream Club posted its sign in the sign Forest. Colleen and I also spent some time ferreting out the sign of our RV heroes Marc & Trish Leach of “Keep Your Daydream” or KYD. That was a real treat — it wasn’t that long ago we decided to tackle this dream and KYD was a big part of prepping for it. We still love to watch their adventures and if you haven’t checked them out yet, make your way over to https://www.youtube.com/c/keepyourdaydreamtv and take a look. They’ll teach you everything you need to know about RVing!

We are spending a few days in Dawson City. We took in “Diamond Tooth Gerties” CanCan show as an example of the kind of entertainment that may have been available to the Klondike Gold Rush miners. It was cute but not for minors, if you get my drift. Still, it steeps you in reality of this harsh life and what might have provided a moment of happiness away from the drudgery of mining and all of the associated activities that surround it.

Tomorrow we do the walking tour, and then we head out on the dreaded “road to Chicken, AK”. Until then, we’ll see you down the road!
